Crayon and NovaStor are working together

The increasing preference for German-made software is evident, particularly for sovereign digital managed services. This alignment between NovaStor, a German software manufacturer based in Hamburg, and Crayon, a Norwegian IT service provider, announced in mid-2025, neatly fits this trend.

Crayon and NovaStor are working together

Novastor GmbH, a German software manufacturer specialising in backup software, has formed a partnership with Norwegian IT service provider Crayon. This collaboration, facilitated by Crayon's acquisition by the globally active software licensing specialist SoftwareOne, aims to make Novastor's products more popular in the channel.

Stefan Utzinger, the managing director of Novastor, sees this partnership as an important step in enabling the channel to build digitally sovereign managed backup services. Utzinger has been at the helm of Novastor since 2004, and under his leadership, the company's backup software has been developed exclusively at its headquarters in Hamburg, Germany.

The partnership between Novastor and Crayon is built on a shared belief that there is a demand for managed solutions that ensure security, digital sovereignty, and compliance in data backup. Both companies are committed to providing software that offers these features, while also ensuring that the data of their customers will be stored exclusively in German data centers, without the involvement of US hyperscalers.

Axel Gillert, the Director of Channel Sales at Crayon, is responsible for the campaign sales of the Crayon-Novastor partnership program. Gillert also believes it is important to strengthen the digital sovereignty of IT infrastructures in companies.

To explain how customers can obtain digitally sovereign managed backup services using Novastor's "DataCenter 10" solution, a channel webinar is scheduled for September 24, 2025. This webinar will provide valuable insights into how IT service providers can offer managed backup services to their customers, using Novastor's secure, compliant, and locally-hosted backup software.

With this partnership, Novastor's software, which already offers security, compliance, and direct proximity to the manufacturer, could potentially make its products known beyond Germany's borders. This is a significant step for Novastor, as it seeks to expand its reach and make its secure data backup solutions available to a wider audience.
