Criminal investigators probe blaze in Huckarde town
In the early hours of this morning, a fire erupted on the second floor of an apartment building located on Rahmer Street. The fire department was quickly called to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze after a two-hour operation.
The smoke inhalation incident did not pose a risk to the resident's life, but a 56-year-old resident was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, all other residents of the house remained unharmed.
Due to the water used to extinguish the fire, the apartment where the fire started and the one below it are no longer habitable. The heat from the fire also caused cracks in the windows of a restaurant on the ground floor.
Current findings suggest suspicion of negligent arson in relation to the fire, but the name of the suspect involved has not been disclosed in the available reports. The police investigation is ongoing, and the Criminal Police have taken over the investigation of the fire incident.
The building was evacuated during the fire, and the residents are currently being accommodated elsewhere. The community is urged to stay informed and follow any updates from the authorities.
This incident serves as a reminder to always prioritise safety and to be vigilant when it comes to potential fire hazards. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
