Cross Voting Occurs in Düsseldorf - Three Düsseldorf Residents Secure Seats in the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag)

In the recent Bundestag elections held in Düsseldorf, Germany, three parties have secured seats to represent the city. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Alliance 90/The Greens, and The Left have emerged victorious, with Thomas Jarzombek, Johannes Winkel, and Sara Nanni being the elected representatives, respectively.

The overall voter turnout in Düsseldorf was 82.02%, with a slightly higher turnout in the northern part of the city at 83.36%. The southern part of Düsseldorf saw a turnout of 80.43%. A total of 339,004 votes were counted across the city's 305 polling stations.

Thomas Jarzombek, who has been a member of the German Bundestag for the CDU since 2009, has secured another term, both via his list position and winning the constituency. He is the CDU mandate holder for the Düsseldorf electoral district, with no information available about any other CDU member holding a mandate for this district.

Johannes Winkel, chairman of the Young Union, had a close call but managed to secure a seat in the Bundestag. Neither the Free Democratic Party (FDP) nor the Basic Law for a Social Market Economy (BSW) reached the 5 percent threshold, which means Winkel will be representing Düsseldorf in the Bundestag.

Sara Nanni, who was already a member of the Bundestag, ran in the south of Düsseldorf for Alliance 90/The Greens. The results of the Greens and their list position in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) secure another term in Berlin for Nanni. Anas Al-Qura'an ran in the northern part of Düsseldorf for Alliance 90/The Greens, but the final results are yet to be announced.

The Left achieved a commendable result in Düsseldorf, confirming their goals for more social justice and redistribution of wealth. Dr. Zanda Martens, chairperson of Düsseldorf SPD, acknowledged the difficulty her party faced in the elections. She will now focus on the local election campaign, where she will not be running for a mandate.

The FDP faced a setback in Düsseldorf, as fears were confirmed that the party would not enter the Bundestag at all. Downcast faces could be seen at the FDP headquarters, as the preliminary official results showed the party trailing behind with 6.75% of the votes.

A total of 4,200 election helpers were on duty, with over 1,400 in the exhibition hall to count the votes of postal voters. The atmosphere at Düsseldorf town hall was tense on Sunday evening as the results were announced. The final official results for second votes in Düsseldorf are as follows: CDU - 28.00%, SPD - 17.96%, Greens - 17.73%, AfD - 11.30%, The Left - 10.53%, FDP - 6.75%, BSW - 4.15%, and Other - 3.59%.
