Crowd disaster outside French wine bar as driver strikes, claiming two lives and wounding five individuals after intentionally colliding with them in his vehicle
In the early hours of this morning, a tragic incident unfolded in Évreux, a town of approximately 50,000 residents in France's Normandy region. A man deliberately drove his car into a crowd outside a wine bar, resulting in one fatality and two critical injuries.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m., and the bar, known for its questionable reputation, is located in the town centre. As per the mayor's statement, the bar should have closed at 1 a.m., but it appears that the festivities continued into the early hours.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a panicked crowd, with many people under the influence of alcohol. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident: two men, including the driver, and one woman. The names of those arrested have not been disclosed in the available sources.
Authorities have opened a homicide investigation and an attempted homicide investigation. Remi Coutin, Evreux's public prosecutor, stated that the toll is very heavy. He also mentioned that additional arrests are possible.
