Cryptocurrency Wallet Trust Wallet Introduces Stock and ETF Tokenized Trading Services
Trust Wallet, the popular digital wallet platform, has taken a significant step forward in expanding its services. The company has announced the integration of self-custody for Real-World Assets (RWAs), digital representations of real-world properties and certificates of ownership.
This new feature allows Trust Wallet's 200 million users worldwide to swap stablecoins like USDC for tokenized versions of popular stocks and Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). The integration is a strategic move towards building a "Web3 neo bank" that provides global financial tools without surrendering control of assets.
The collaboration for this integration includes Ondo Finance and 1inch. Ondo Finance offers a wide selection of tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs onchain, making them accessible to global investors. The RWA integration opens doors for millions of people previously excluded from traditional financial markets. Users can access U.S. stocks and ETFs without needing a bank account or brokerage.
However, it's important to note that the availability of RWA tokens may depend on regional restrictions imposed by exchanges or regulatory frameworks. Users should verify token availability in their respective areas before trading. The integration is not available in specific regions including the U.S., U.K., and European Economic Area.
The RWA swapping follows U.S. market hours, operating Monday through Friday from 1:30 pm to 8:00 pm UTC. The minimum investment for RWAs is just $1. Initially, the integration is available on Ethereum with Solana support planned for the future. Trust Wallet is the first self-custody wallet to provide cross-chain access to tokenized RWAs, starting with Ethereum and planning to expand to additional providers and networks.
While self-custody provides technical security for RWAs, trust in the issuer remains essential as the actual stocks or ETFs are still held by a custodian. This means that users maintain control over their assets but rely on the issuer's reliability and the regulatory environment in which the assets are held.
Trust Wallet's RWA integration marks a significant milestone in making financial tools accessible regardless of geography or intermediaries, aiming to put "Wall Street in everyone's pocket." Users cannot trade RWAs outside these hours, but the company tracks off-hours interest for potential future features.
