Cultural Buddy Initiative Launches in Trier to Bridge Participation Gap

The 'Cultural Community' initiative, a brainchild of Hamburger* mit Herz e.V. and born at the 'Trier Freedom Tree' community action in 2024, is set to enrich cultural participation in the region. Funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Lottery Foundation and the 'Strengthening People' program, this innovative project aims to bridge barriers and encourage more frequent visits to cultural events.

The initiative partners with local cultural institutions such as the theater, Tufa, city museum, and scientific city library. It matches culture-loving volunteers with 'culturally distant' seniors, creating 'buddy' pairs based on shared cultural interests and personalities. This unique approach aims to foster lasting interpersonal contacts and strengthen cultural community.

The project is currently seeking volunteers who can register by email until mid-October. Meanwhile, seniors can be approached through community work and senior facilities. The entrance fee for the inaugural joint event is free, providing an accessible starting point for participants.

The 'Cultural Community' initiative, under the guidance of culture commissioner Markus Noehl, is poised to create meaningful connections and enhance cultural experiences. By breaking down barriers and encouraging engagement, this program promises to enrich the cultural landscape of the region.
