The Main Customs Office in Dresden welcomed 46 new trainees on September 1, 2025, marking the start of their careers as future customs officers. This group includes 9 young professionals starting a dual study program in the higher service and 37 embarking on an apprenticeship in the intermediate service.

These training programs, offered by the German Customs Administration (Zollverwaltung), are designed to provide young individuals with comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in various aspects of customs work.

For those pursuing the intermediate service apprenticeship, the two-year program qualifies them for the professional title of "Financial Administrator". The dual study program, on the other hand, lasts three years and concludes with the academic degree "Bachelor of Laws" (LL.B.).

Theoretical components of the higher service are completed at the Federal Administration School in Münster, while those for the intermediate service are conducted at the training centres of the Federal Finance Administration. Practical phases are spent in various areas of the training main customs office, nearby customs offices, customs investigation offices, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate.

Interested applicants for the higher or intermediate customs service, or for the administrative informatics program, can submit their applications until October 15, 2025. Applications are typically made through the official federal or state recruitment portals. For more information, visit www.zoll-karriere.de or www.zoll.de (Careers).
