Swiss Woman Faces Criminal Proceedings for Undeclared Gold Jewelry Worth €14,000

In an unusual incident at Friedrichshafen Airport, a Swiss woman found herself in hot water after attempting to conceal gold jewelry worth over €14,000. The incident, which occurred approximately two weeks ago, has led to a criminal proceeding being initiated against the woman.

According to reports, the woman claimed the jewelry was a gift from her grandmother. However, she failed to declare the valuable items, leading to the imposition of import duties totaling €3,000.

Customs officers at the airport noticed a distinctive gold ring on the woman's hand, which piqued their interest. Upon further investigation, they discovered undeclared gold jewelry worth €14,000.

The woman, who is currently in training, was asked to undergo a check by the customs officers. In an attempt to bypass the usual procedures, she attempted to leave the airport via the green channel, intended for travelers with no goods to declare.

A small bail of €600 was collected from the woman, and the expected fine amount is still pending. The location of the discovery was the Ulm Customs Office, and the jewelry has been seized.

The Ulm Customs Office has provided contact details for further inquiries. You can reach them at Sarah Mayer, Phone: 0731/9648-1000, Email: [email protected], Website: www.zoll.de.

This incident serves as a reminder to all travelers to declare all goods, especially high-value items, to avoid any potential legal issues.
