Customs officials successfully seize luxury vintage automobiles valued at over one million euros on Highway 2.

On Monday, August 25, 2025, customs officers made a significant seizure at the Allenstein rest area on the A2 motorway. A 100-year-old classic car, worth one million euros, was confiscated due to a lack of proper customs documentation.

The driver, a 46-year-old British man, was arrested for not presenting valid customs papers for the import or temporary use of the vehicle in the European Union. Despite being given the opportunity to clarify the missing documents by phone, the driver was unable to do so, leading to the seizure of the classic car.

According to customs regulations, goods from non-EU countries may only be used in the European Union if they are properly declared for a customs procedure and released by the customs office. In this case, the vehicle was being transported from Britain to Denmark for exhibition, but the necessary customs procedures were not followed.

For temporary uses, such as exhibitions, import duties can be waived under certain conditions. However, a security deposit of 70,000 euros for the expected import duties was imposed in this instance. Unfortunately, the driver was unable to pay the security deposit, which resulted in the seizure of the classic car.

The car was seized by customs officers from the Dortmund main customs office, and a statement was made by Munch, from the customs office, regarding the seizure. The driver was charged with tax evasion, and a criminal investigation was initiated.

The name of the driver has not been publicly disclosed, in accordance with privacy regulations. The incident serves as a reminder for anyone transporting goods from non-EU countries to the European Union to ensure they follow the proper customs procedures to avoid any potential issues.
