In the past year, there has been a significant increase in e-bike accidents in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to recent data, there was a 44.0% surge in e-bike accidents in 2020, with 3,896 e-bike riders or passengers involved.
One such incident occurred on Monday, April 26, 2021, around 8:35 PM in Neuss-Uedesheim, Germany. A 53-year-old e-bike rider was injured in an accident on Macherscheider Straße, while attempting to turn left onto Martinusstraße. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but it is known that the rider had balance issues and slurred speech, and admitted to consuming alcohol.
The rapid spread of e-bikes is believed to be a contributing factor to the increase in accidents.
