Daily Agenda for 'Tour dementia': Focus on providing assistance and information for affected relatives and victims; Outline of the day's activities
On September 17, 2025, Bergisch Gladbach will host a Dementia Action Day, in conjunction with World Alzheimer's Day. This event, organised by the Regional Office for Age, Care and Dementia Bergisches Land in cooperation with the City of Bergisch Gladbach, promises a varied program aimed at raising awareness and providing valuable resources for those affected by dementia.
The action-packed day will kick off with a bicycle tour, the "Tour Demenz", starting at the city center and culminating at the city library on Hauptstraße 250. The bicycle group, accompanied by Radwerk (Caritas), will arrive at Market Square around 3:25 PM and will be warmly welcomed by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives.
From 2:30 PM, the Market Square will transform into a hub of activity, with a range of information stands and interactive activities. "The Radiance of Age" - Portrait photos from the encounter centers of Caritas RheinBerg - will be displayed, offering a poignant glimpse into the lives of those affected by dementia.
At the City Library at the Forum, a media exhibition on the topic of dementia will run from September 15-27. Visitors can expect thought-provoking displays and resources designed to foster understanding and empathy.
Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen from the EVK Bergisch Gladbach will deliver a lecture titled "Dement - what now?" at 10:00 AM. This insightful talk promises to provide valuable information and guidance for those navigating the challenges of dementia.
For those interested in dance, dance pedagogue Katharina Simbrunner will be offering a dance offer "In rhythm of memory" - movement for people with and without dementia of TV Refrath. Registration for the offer at 4:00 PM "With all senses in rhythm of memory" in the Villa Zanders is required by September 15, 2025.
A guided tour "With all senses" will also be held at Villa Zanders at 4:00 PM, with a focus on the encounter with selected artworks of the exhibition "Eckart Hahn: Papiertiger." Registration for this tour is also required by September 15, 2025.
The Volkshochschule (VHS) Bergisch Gladbach - Buchmühlenstraße 12, 51465 Bergisch Gladbach, will host a lecture at 5:30-7:00 PM on "Driving with dementia - assistance for relatives and interested parties."
The DRK Refrather Treff in Steinbrecher Weg 2, 51427 Bergisch Gladbach, will host two lectures. At 12:00 PM, Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the City of Bergisch Gladbach will give a lecture on "Legal representation options in dementia - legal guardianship is good, power of attorney is better." Nicole Sutschet, Police Sergeant and Traffic Safety Advisor of the Accident Prevention, will be delivering the second lecture.
Visitors can also expect information and materials from the Aging Support Office, Care Counseling Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, and the Guardianship office. The City Library will have an information stand and interactive activity.
