Daily Plan: 'Tour dementia' Action Day - Outline of events for family members and afflicted individuals' participation
On September 17, 2025, the city of Bergisch Gladbach and the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia Bergisches Land will host an action day focused on "Dementia". This event, part of the European Mobility Week, aims to spread knowledge, support relatives, and facilitate encounters.
The day will kick off with a series of lectures and exhibitions. Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen from the EVK Bergisch Gladbach will give a lecture titled "Dement - what now?" at the DRK Refrather Treff at 10:00 AM. At the same venue, Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach will discuss "Legal representation options in dementia - legal guardianship is good, power of attorney is better" at noon. Later in the day, Nicole Sutschet, Police Sergeant and traffic safety advisor of the accident prevention, will discuss "Driving with dementia - assistance for relatives and interested parties" at the Volkshochschule Bergisch Gladbach from 5:30-7:00 PM.
A media exhibition on the topic of dementia will be held at the City Library am Forum from September 15-27. The library will also have an information booth and interactive activity as part of the event.
Lectures, exhibitions, and interactive activities will not be the only highlights of the day. Information booths from various organisations will be set up, offering consultation, materials, and advice. The Aging Support Office will be present, as will Care Counseling Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, the Contact office for self-help in care, and the Guardianship office.
The event offers a varied program from morning to evening with numerous network and cooperation partners. One such partner is ADFC Rhein-Berg, who will offer E-tandem to try out and will accompany the bicycle group. The bicycle group of the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia Bergisches Land will arrive at the Market Square around 3:25 PM, where they will be welcomed by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives of the city and the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. Portrait photos from the encounter centers of Caritas RheinBerg will be displayed on the Market Square from 2:30 PM.
The action day is held in conjunction with the upcoming World Alzheimer's Day and includes a bicycle tour, the "Tour Demenz", through the Bergisches Land. However, the organization conducting the tour on Friday, September 18, 2025, will take place in another town within the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, not in the city of Bergisch Gladbach.
