The fourth ÖKOPROFIT project, an environmental technology project for small and medium-sized enterprises, was launched on February 28, 20XX in Gelsenkirchen. This year, the project includes 13 participants from the cities of Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck, Herne, and Bottrop, with B.A.U.M. Consult GmbH providing on-site guidance and advice.
Bottrop, a city that has previously participated in ÖKOPROFIT three times, is once again a part of this environmental initiative. Two schools from Bottrop, the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium and the Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule, are also participating in the current round.
Klaus Müller, Technical Deputy Mayor, expressed his pleasure at the project's start, expressing his expectation that the participants will demonstrate their contribution to the implementation of global sustainability goals and climate protection goals. Rainer Jesenek, responsible for ÖKOPROFIT in the Environmental and Green Department in Bottrop, expressed his satisfaction with the diverse mix of Bottrop companies participating this year and encouraged interested businesses to join in the next year.
The focus areas for the participants are energy, water, waste, material flow analyses, and hazardous substances. The project aims to reduce resource consumption, increase profit margins, and promote sustainability and environmental friendliness. It also offers participants the opportunity to critically examine their own structures and workflows and identify processes that can be optimized.
The continuity, commitment, and innovative spirit of ÖKOPROFIT are prerequisites for sustainable business. The project is funded by the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the state of NRW and is set to continue as a project under the sponsorship of the four cities: Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck, Herne, and Bottrop.
For further information, contacts can be made to Rainer Jesenek from the Department of Environment and Green, and Frank Paluch from Economic Development and Location Management. Further information about ÖKOPROFIT can be found online on the ÖKOPROFIT Network NRW, a brochure (PDF file): ÖKOPROFIT Bottrop - Gelsenkirchen - Gladbeck - Herne, and the website Economy. Sustainability. Future - B.A.U.M. Consult.
In the last project round, 14 companies from Bottrop and neighboring cities participated, resulting in savings of over 250,000 euros, 850,000 kWh of energy, and 1,169 tons of CO2. The economic location of the four cities and the economic power of the companies would benefit from more businesses engaging in ÖKOPROFIT.
B.A.U.M. Consult from Hamm is supporting the project, ensuring that participants receive expert advice and guidance throughout the project. With the start of the ÖKOPROFIT project, the cities of Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck, Herne, and Bottrop take another step towards a sustainable future.
