Deadly Suicide Attack in Pakistan Results in 12 Fatalities, Amongst which are 6 Security Personnel
In a shocking incident on Tuesday, a powerful explosion followed by heavy gunfire and several subsequent explosions rocked the Frontier Constabulary headquarters in the Bannu district of Khyber Phaktunkhwa province, Northwest Pakistan.
The area around the headquarters has been sealed off by the police, who have asked residents to stay away until the operation is completed. Provincial police chief Zulfiqar Hameed provided updates on the ongoing operation to reporters.
According to reports, at least six paramilitary troops and six suspected militants were killed in the attack. Eighteen security personnel and two civilians were transferred to a hospital, with another 20 people, including security personnel, injured.
The perpetrators of the attack have been identified as belonging to the militant group Jabhatu Ansar al-Mahdi Khorasan (JAMK), a little-known group that claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistan has been observing an increase in militant attacks in recent years. The TTP, a conglomerate of various militant groups, has been accused of carrying out many of these attacks, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of failing to prevent them from doing so. However, Afghanistan denies these charges and reaffirms its commitment to not allowing cross-border militant operations.
Resident Karim Khan reported seeing parts of an explosive-laden vehicle scattered along Kohat Road, suggesting that suspected suicide bombers rammed the vehicle into the main gate of the compound. The operation against the attackers lasted for hours, with heavy firing and explosions still being heard in the area near the constabulary's headquarters.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing militant threat in the region and the need for increased security measures to protect civilians and security personnel. The authorities are working diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the citizens of Pakistan.
