Deal Reached: Playtech Announces Exit From German Betting Operations With Happybet

Playtech, a leading provider of gambling software, has announced it will transfer its German sports betting brand, Happybet, to NetX Betting Ltd, a subsidiary of Frankfurt-listed betting group pferdewetten.de AG. This move forms part of Playtech's strategic efforts to reposition itself as a primarily Business-to-Business (B2B) operator.

The decision to sell Happybet follows after Playtech shut down its Austrian branch in the latter half of 2024 and commenced the process of selling the remainder of the German business earlier this year. The broader objective is to concentrate on technology services versus consumer-facing operations.

As part of the agreement, pferdewetten.de gains the opportunity to engage directly with franchise partners managing Happybet shops in Germany, subject to regulatory approvals and successful negotiations. Additionally, pferdewetten.de will acquire control over approximately 600 hardware units, consisting of betting terminals and POS systems related to the Happybet brand.

Despite the existing transition period, which allows pferdewetten.de to finalize contracts with franchisees and secure necessary licenses from German regulatory bodies, any assets not transferred or assumed by pferdewetten.de will be shut down and wound up accordingly.

This transaction signifies a significant milestone in Playtech's transition away from direct consumer operations and towards a focus on B2B services.
