The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, which was originally scheduled for 2020 but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is set to take place virtually for the second consecutive year. The festival, which celebrates the best in advertising and creative communications, will announce awards for a two-year period (2020 and 2021) through the Cannes Lions online platform.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the festival has received entries from across 89 countries, a testament to its global reach and influence. However, the number of entries this year is lower than the last in-person festival in 2019, with a total of 29,074 award entries.

The decrease in entries can be attributed to the virtual format of the festival, as well as the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the advertising industry. Nevertheless, there has been a notable increase in entries from both independent agencies and production companies. Independent agencies have seen a 14% increase in entries compared to 2019, while production companies have seen a significant jump of almost a fifth (19%) in entries.

The highest awarded independent advertising agencies and production companies at this year's festival include Vega Project, Gold Village, and The Many. These agencies and companies have demonstrated exceptional creativity and innovation in their work, earning them top honours at the prestigious event.

The festival's virtual format has allowed it to reach a wider audience and provide more opportunities for participation. This year's event promises to be an exciting and inspiring celebration of creativity, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. The awards will be announced live through the Cannes Lions online platform, and attendees from around the world will have the opportunity to tune in and celebrate the best in advertising and creative communications.
