Decorative Pumpkin Suncatcher DIY Project

In a delightful display of creativity and imagination, a group of children recently transformed their dining room windows into vibrant works of art. The kids, eager to celebrate the spooktacular spirit of Halloween, made pumpkin sun catchers in a variety of colors and shapes, reminiscent of those found in "The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin."

This beloved book, penned by Joe Troiano, tells the tale of a unique pumpkin whose differences save the day, imparting a valuable message about not judging by appearances. The children's pumpkin sun catchers, adorned with glitter and small pieces of tissue paper, were a testament to this very message.

To create these enchanting sun catchers, the children used clear contact paper, permanent markers, glitter, tissue paper, scissors, and their creative minds. They drew pumpkin outlines and faces on the non-sticky side of the contact paper, adding a touch of their own imagination to each design. The completed sun catchers, once taped to the windows, looked lovely in the sunlight, casting a kaleidoscope of colours onto the room.

This activity was part of a Halloween Read and Play Blog Hop, a virtual event that connects children and parents with a plethora of Halloween-themed book-based activities. Other activities mentioned included "Goodnight Goon- Halloween Slime," "Five Little Pumpkins- Clothespin Activity," and "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything," to name a few.

The Blog Hop also featured other popular Halloween books, such as "Halloween" by Hanna Karlzon, a hardcover book released on August 28, 2025, and the crime novel "Halloweenkind" by Lars Engels. These books, along with a multitude of interactive Halloween books for children, were recommended on TikTok-based content curated for seasonal reading.

As the children admired their handiwork, they couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Their pumpkin sun catchers, inspired by the diverse pumpkins in Spookley's pumpkin patch from the book, were more than just decorations; they were a symbol of unity, creativity, and the power of embracing one's differences.

So, as the Halloween season continues, let's remember the message of "The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin" and celebrate the uniqueness that makes each of us special. Happy Halloween!
