Decrease in Commercial LPG Gas Cylinder Prices: ₹51.50 Reduction Starting September 1
In a significant move, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have announced a reduction in the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinder by Rs 51.50, effective September 1. This decision comes as part of the regular monthly revisions based on global crude prices and other market factors.
The new price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi will be Rs 1,580, marking a significant drop from the previous rate of Rs 1,723.50, as announced in June. This reduction follows an earlier decrease of Rs 33.50 in July and Rs 58.50 in March.
It is important to note that this price adjustment does not apply to domestic LPG cylinders, where the price remains unchanged.
The reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices does not involve any subsidy, unlike the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which was launched in May 2016 to provide deposit-free LPG connections to adult women from poor households. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a targeted subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for up to 9 refills per year for PMUY beneficiaries in FY 2025-26.
As of July 1, 2025, there are about 10.33 crore PMUY connections across the country.
The expenditure for this subsidy is estimated to be Rs 12,000 crore. However, the exact expenditure for the reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices is not available at this time.
In April, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder stood at Rs 1,762. Since then, there has been no change in the price of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders.
This latest price reduction is a welcome relief for businesses and commercial establishments that rely on LPG for their daily operations. The regular revisions in LPG prices based on market conditions aim to ensure that consumers are not unduly burdened by fluctuations in global crude prices.
