Dresden Frauenkirche Commemorative Stamp to be Unveiled

The German Post is set to present a new commemorative stamp featuring the iconic Dresden Frauenkirche. The stamp, part of the special edition "Time Travel Germany", will be unveiled on Thursday at a stand on the Dresden Neumarkt.

The stamp, valued at 100 cents, showcases two images of the Frauenkirche in combination. One image is a black and white photo of the church from 1957, capturing its ruined state after the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The other image is a vibrant color photo of the rebuilt Frauenkirche from 2015, standing proudly in its original glory.

The idea for this seven-arched postage stamp was conceived by the Saxon State Ministry of Finance (Sächsisches Staatsministerium der Finanzen) and planned as part of a special stamp series to highlight important architectural monuments in Saxony. The Dresden Frauenkirche stamp follows the Cologne Cathedral, which was the first motif of the "Time Travel Germany" special edition.

In addition to the regular stamp, a special cancellation stamp is available for the Dresden Frauenkirche stamp. The symbolic reception of the large format stamp will take place on the Neumarkt, where the public can also purchase the stamp with a special cancellation mark.

The commemorative stamp for the Dresden Frauenkirche is part of a series that includes the Cologne Cathedral. This series is part of a broader effort to preserve and celebrate the rich architectural heritage of Germany.

Mayor of Dresden, Dirk Hilbert, will receive the large format stamp symbolically during the event on Thursday. The unveiling of the Dresden Frauenkirche stamp promises to be an exciting occasion for stamp collectors and history enthusiasts alike.

So, if you're in Dresden on Thursday, be sure to visit the Neumarkt to obtain this unique piece of history. The Dresden Frauenkirche stamp is more than just a postage stamp; it's a testament to the resilience and beauty of one of Germany's most cherished landmarks.
