In the ongoing wage negotiations between the union ver.di and Deutsche Post, tensions are running high as both parties remain at an impasse. The third round of negotiations, which took place recently, did not yield an agreement, with the union deeming the offer presented as completely insufficient.

Thomas Großtück, head of the postal services, freight, and logistics department in North Rhine-Westphalia, emphasized the employers' offer, which was submitted on February 14, 2025, with a contract period of 27 months until March 31, 2027. The offer includes wage increases of 1.8 percent from July 1, 2025, and an additional 2.0 percent from October 1, 2026. However, the union contends that this offer results in noticeable real wage losses for employees while prices in the supermarket continue to rise.

In response, ver.di has demanded a linear wage increase of seven percent for approximately 170,000 employees, trainees, and dual students at Deutsche Post AG. The union also seeks three additional vacation days for wage-earning employees and trainees, and an additional vacation day specifically for ver.di members.

The next round of wage negotiations is scheduled for March 3/4, 2025. The union expects an improved offer in the fourth round that is acceptable. As the deadline approaches, employees in North Rhine-Westphalia were called upon to go on strike in all parcel centers on Tuesday evening (25.2.) to Wednesday morning (26.2.).

Employees will continue to take to the streets and increase pressure in the workplace to demand a better offer. According to ver.di, there could be widespread delays in the delivery of parcels from Wednesday onwards due to the strike.

The union hopes that these actions will lead to improvements in wages and working conditions, including better pay rates starting from March 2025, as ver.di expects during the fourth round of tariff negotiations with Deutsche Post. The union's determination is clear: they will not rest until a fair and equitable agreement is reached.
