In August 2024, a group of 11 students from Kant-Gymnasium Boppard, accompanied by the school principal, Genzo Kawaguchi, and English teacher Yuko Murata, embarked on a journey to Boppard for a student exchange, marking the resumption of a 14-year-old school partnership with Ome-Sogo High School in Japan.

This exchange was made possible after a warm welcome extended to a youth delegation from Boppard led by Mayor Jörg Haseneier at the partner school in Ome, Japan, in May of the same year.

The city of Boppard honoured the guests with a reception at the city hall, where they were greeted by City Councilor Markus Schwarz on behalf of the Mayor of Boppard. The reception was also attended by members of the recent student exchange delegation.

During their stay in Boppard, the students immersed themselves in German school life and gained insights into German culture. The city of Boppard, in turn, invited the group to a city tour, a museum tour, and a reception at the city hall.

The Taiko performance, the school choir, and insights into various clubs of the Japanese students left a lasting impression on the visitors from Boppard. Anna Weinand, a member of the Boppard youth delegation, welcomed the attendees at the city hall reception for the Ome-Sogo High School.

The reception included an opportunity for informal conversations and networking. After the official proceedings, there was an informal gathering for further discussions, exchange, and networking.

Due to high flight costs from Japan, the number of travelers for the 2024 exchange was reduced. However, this did not dampen the spirits of those who made the journey.

The Golden Book of the city of Boppard was available for the Japanese guests to sign, and a group photo was taken on the steps of the Old Town Hall after the city of Boppard's reception. Anna Weinand reminisced about her unforgettable time in Ome during the May visit.

Deputy Mayor Helmut Zindorf welcomed the guests on behalf of the mayor and spoke about his own visit to the Ome-Sogo High School in October 2010. The last student exchange between the two schools took place in 2019.

Annual youth delegation trips are also organised by the city administrations of Ome and Boppard, ensuring the continuation of this cross-cultural exchange programme. The photo of the group on the Old Town Hall steps was captured by Martina Weirich, preserving a moment of unity and friendship between the two schools.
