DeLorean Motor Company, renowned for producing the iconic DeLorean, reaches an agreement with NBC Universal over a dispute.

In a significant turn of events, DeLorean Motor Company, based in suburban Houston, Texas, has reached a settlement with NBCUniversal Media, LLC. over unpaid royalties and unauthorized use of DeLorean trademarks.

The lawsuit, filed in October 2022, alleged trademark and trade dress infringement, citing the "Back to the Future" films, "Ready Player One", Universal Studios theme parks, and various merchandise. The dispute stemmed from the iconic DeLorean car's appearance in the "Back to the Future" franchise, a partnership that dates back to the 1980s.

DeLorean Motor Company, owned by Stephen Wynne, has gone to great lengths to protect the DeLorean brand, as stated by Wynne himself. He expressed relief that the dispute with NBCUniversal is over and looked forward to future collaborations with the media giant. The terms of the settlement, however, remain confidential.

Wynne, who is also the CEO of DeLorean Motor Company, operates three parts, service, and sales locations: Houston, Texas, Orlando, Florida, and Huntington Beach, California. The company stocks more than 3.5 million new, original, and reproduction parts for DeLorean cars, ensuring that these classic vehicles can be driven and enjoyed by future generations.

DeLorean Motor Company owns multiple DeLorean-related trademarks and service mark registrations in multiple countries, including the trade dress for the iconic DeLorean car design. The company also serves and caters to the needs of thousands of DeLorean car owners worldwide.

In 2022, DeLorean Motor Company unveiled the new DeLorean Alpha5 vehicles, marking a new chapter in the company's history. As of now, there are no publicly announced future partnerships between DeLorean Motor Company and NBCUniversal Media, LLC.

Foley Bezek Behle & Curtis, a law firm representing DeLorean Motor Company, contributed to the settlement with attorneys Roger Behle, Kevin Gamarnik, Jordan Liebman, and Luis Saenz.

The case was scheduled for trial on April 2, 2024, but was settled before trial. With this settlement, DeLorean cars and trademarks can continue to be used in "Back to the Future" merchandise.

Despite the legal battle, Wynne remains optimistic about the future, emphasizing DeLorean Motor Company's commitment to preserving and promoting the DeLorean brand.
