Demi Moore expresses difficulty in observing the change in Bruce Willis' character due to his ongoing dementia struggle
In a heartfelt interview on The Oprah Winfrey Podcast on September 2, 2023, Demi Moore shared her feelings about her ex-husband, Bruce Willis. Moore, who shares three children with Willis, discussed the challenges and the incredible sweetness she finds in her current interactions with him.
Moore revealed that it is difficult to see Willis, once vibrant and strong, battling dementia. However, she has learned to meet him where he is currently at, finding something soft, tender, and loving in their interactions.
Willis, diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, lives separately from his family in a second house arranged by his wife Emma Heming Willis. Although he remains physically mobile and generally healthy, his cognitive decline, especially loss of speech, deeply affects communication and care.
Moore expressed sadness about Willis' transformation due to dementia but defended Heming Willis's difficult decision to place him in specialized care. She emphasized the importance of meeting patients where they are rather than expecting them to be as they once were.
During the interview, Moore also spoke about Willis' directness in their past relationship. She is now trying to shake off expectations of Willis' past self and focus on the man he is today.
Despite the challenges, Moore remains close to Willis, finding an incredible sweetness in their current interactions. Her heartfelt words serve as a reminder of the importance of compassion and understanding in dealing with loved ones facing health challenges.
