Fresh Take: Biden's Return to Limelight Stirs Democrat Concerns

Biden claims he wasn't shocked by Harris loss, points fingers at racism and sexism

Democratic party members reportedly express resentment towards President Biden's reemergence in the public spotlight.

In a candid chat on ABC's "The View", former President Joe Biden revealed he wasn't taken aback by Kamala Harris' 2024 election loss, attributing it to the effectiveness of racist and sexist attacks.

Democrats are currently steaming as Joe Biden commanded the spotlight post his latest interview on "The View", according to The Hill's latest report.

Many Democrats are up in arms, asserting that the former president's persistent public appearances are merely dragging the party back with concerns about his cognitive abilities resurfacing.

Former First Lady Jill Biden promptly stepped in to aid her husband during a heated question about his mental fitness on 'The View'.

"Elections revolve around the future. Every time Joe Biden makes a public appearance, we engage in an old battle," Democratic strategist and former Biden administration administrate, Anthony Cole, told The Hill. "Joe Biden isn't the kind of leader the Democratic Party needs to attract independents, moderates, and energize the base."

Despite Cole acknowledging that it was "good" for Biden to accept some responsibility for the party's failures leading to Trump's 2024 win, he questioned the effectiveness of such admission now.

"Honestly, what difference does that make now? Many Democrats - from elected officials to the party faithful - are just eager to leave the past behind. I just don't think he understands the magnitude of this sentiment," Cole emphasized.

Other Democrats were even less impressed with his "View" appearance, claiming he didn't go far enough in admitting fault for 2024.

One Democratic strategist argued that Biden needs to "accept responsibility for his actions" and "admit that part of this is on him."

"I don't think there's a willingness to acknowledge that he should never have run again in the first place," the strategist stated. "Why can't he come out and admit that part of this is on him?"

Biden maintains Harris loss was due to sexism and racism

Steve Schale, a longtime Biden ally, urged Biden to highlight his personal touch instead of public appearances that accentuate his decline.

"There's a way for President Biden to establish his post-presidency, but this isn't it," Schale declared. "I genuinely wish he'd focus on his humanity."

One Democratic strategist suggested Biden follow Former President Jimmy Carter's post-presidency model, emphasizing community outreach over legacy maintenance.

Biden's recent interviews come amid a barrage of new books scrutinizing the final days of the Biden administration, including allegations of mental decline while serving as president.

Biden and his wife quashed these allegations during Thursday's interview, with the former first lady stating, "The folks who wrote those books weren't present with us in the White House."

An unnamed Democratic operative told The Hill that the narrative surrounding Biden's mental acuity will persist, and future candidates will need to address it.

"There's a good chance that the most significant litmus test for any Democrat in the 2028 field will be their stance on Biden's political judgment during the final 18 months of his tenure," the operative asserted.

Some Democrats question why there's a need for Biden's public visibility when younger party leaders are emerging.

"I don't understand who's demanding this," Democratic strategist Jon Reinish commented. "Actually, I believe that many people are starting to focus more on a younger generation of Democrats who are finally leading the party away from those stuck in the past."
