Demonstration in Support of Palestinians Held During Venice Film Festival

In the heart of Venice, Italy, a significant event unfolded during the ongoing Venice Film Festival. A group called "Venice 4 Palestine," founded by artists and activists, organised a demonstration to raise awareness about the Palestinian cause. Approximately 3,000 people participated, holding a sign reading "Stop the Genocide," in response to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The demonstration was sparked by international criticism over the high number of civilian casualties in the Gaza war. South Africa, in particular, has filed a lawsuit with the International Criminal Court, accusing Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians. According to the UN Convention, genocide refers to the intent to destroy a particular group. Israel, however, has claimed self-defense following the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023.

The Middle East conflict has been a recurring theme at the Venice Film Festival. This year, a film titled "The Voice of Hind Rajab," directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, is in competition. The film tells the story of a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed in the Gaza Strip. Last year's Golden Lion winner, Giorgos Lanthimos, also showed his support, wearing a pin with the colors of the Palestinian flag during his appearances at the festival.

Elsewhere, positive trends were seen in Hamm, where there is support for families during the back-to-school period and a focus on sustainable mobility through the Cycling Challenge Hamm 2025. In housing construction, there is a positive trend in Hamm as well.

However, the Israeli government and the German government have rejected the genocide accusation. Despite this, the demonstration, which took place near the festival grounds, was a powerful display of solidarity and a call for peace and justice. "Venice 4 Palestine" was part of the demonstration, reiterating their commitment to raising awareness and advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
