Derailed trains spotted in British Columbia's Kootenay region, close to the border with Alberta
A train derailment occurred in British Columbia's Kootenay region near the Alberta boundary at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, as reported by The Canadian Press. The site of the derailment has since been cleaned up by the rail operator's crews.
The rail operator involved in the incident is Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). The operator of the train that derailed is actually Canadian Pacific Railway (CP).
Luckily, no one was injured as a result of the derailment. Multiple train cars left the tracks during the incident, but the 12 cars involved were empty.
The Transportation Safety Board has deployed an investigation team to Elko, B.C., where the derailment occurred. The investigation will gather information and assess the cause of the derailment.
Elko, B.C., is approximately 330 kilometres southwest of Calgary. The rail line involved in the derailment has since reopened.
