Derailed Tram in Dresden: Emergency crew successfully returns tram to its track

In the heart of Dresden, Germany, on August 4, 2025, an unexpected incident occurred at Dreyssigplatz, Mickten. A collision between two trams of line 4 resulted in one of the trams derailing.

The incident, which took place between 1:58 PM and 4:30 PM, caused partial closure of the Dreyssigplatz during the operation. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

A specialist advisor from Dresden's public transport company swiftly developed a strategy to get the derailed tram back onto the tracks. The deployed forces from the Albertstadt fire and rescue station secured the scene and the vehicles.

To carry out the operation, a sliding bridge with a hydraulic jack was positioned. Tension locks were used between the wagon parts to prevent twisting or bending of the articulated parts. Sliding cylinders were then used to carefully place the tram back onto the tracks.

The efforts of the specialist, Herr Michael Bauer from the Dresden public transport company, paid off as the tram was successfully returned to the tracks within two hours - on the first attempt. After being placed back onto the tracks, the tram continued its journey towards Weinböhla.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the collision. No specific information about injuries or damages was provided in this paragraph.

Despite the unexpected incident, the quick response and effective strategy by the specialists ensured the safety of passengers and the resumption of service as soon as possible. The people of Dresden can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their public transport system is in capable hands.
