Designer Merve Kahraman teams up with Anthropologie for a 'whimsical' lighting series, drawing inspiration from the colors and moods of autumn in New York City.
Merve Kahraman, a designer based in the most unpredictable place on earth, has unveiled her latest lighting collection for Anthropologie. Named the 'Cabinet of Curiosities', this collection captures a snapshot of New York City during the transition into fall, while encouraging reactivating curiosity towards life and choosing home decor with the same enthusiasm as children.
The collection includes a chandelier, sconce, pendant, and two table lamps, each piece designed with a playful and unusual approach. Merve Kahraman suggests shopping for home decor with this mindset, as if one still believes their lamp might come to life.
One standout piece from the collection is the Floral Glass Chandelier, which is a representation of Central Park's turning leaves and botanicals. Available in a mix of honey yellow, forest green, terracotta, and gray-blue with polished brass, this chandelier is compared to a glass flower that radiates soft, coloured light like petals unfolding. Merve Kahraman recommends placing the Floral Glass Chandelier above a wooden dining table surrounded by patterned chairs.
Another unique addition to the collection is the mushroom-inspired table lamps. With a ribbed base like gills and glass mimicking the irregularities of fungi, these lamps create a cozy yet cool feeling, almost like a whimsical little gnome character. The mushroom-inspired wall lights are available in Green, Cream, and Terracotta.
The pendant in the collection flirts with surrealism and can serve as kitchen lighting, being 12 inches wide and bold enough to anchor a dining table. This piece, along with the rest of the collection, features a combination of city-like materials and earthy elements like rattan.
Merve Kahraman's inspiration for the 'Cabinet of Curiosities' collection was the book 'Cabinet of Natural Curiosities' by Albertus Seba. The collection does not follow interior design trends and instead focuses on what one genuinely enjoys seeing every day in their space. The fall color palette includes bordeaux and cream, adding a touch of warmth to any room.
In Istanbul, Merve Kahraman found her inspiration for this unique collection. Each piece in the collection is imagined as a living character with its own personality and purpose. This collection aims to make interior design feel more curious, inviting us to rediscover the magic in the ordinary and the beauty in the unexpected.
