"Desire for Success Perseveres": Polar bears hungrily pursue the next achievement
Berlin Polar Bears Set Sights on DEL Championship Defence
The Berlin Polar Bears, four-time champions in the past five years in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), are gearing up for another title run. Stéphane Richer, the team's sports director, has declared that their goal remains unchanged - to win the championship again.
The new DEL season kicks off on September 9 with a sold-out home game against the Dresden Ice Lions. Before that, the Berlin team will face two challenges in the Champions Hockey League (CHL). On Friday, they will take on the Finnish team Lukko Rauma at the Wellblechpalast, and on Sunday, they will face the French champions Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble. However, the search results do not provide information about their opponents in the CHL on these days.
Despite the absence of team captain Kai Wissmann, who is injured and expected to be out for 4 to 6 months due to an Achilles tendon injury, the team remains highly motivated. Wissmann, considered one of the best defenders not only in Germany but in all of Europe, is a significant loss. However, Stéphane Richer has not expressed concern, and head coach Serge Aubin doesn't see the team underestimating their upcoming tasks after winning the championships in the past two years.
The Berlin Polar Bears have not made major personnel changes for the upcoming season, with the exception of the departure of Zach Boychuk, Gabriel Fontaine, and Olivier Galipeau, and the addition of Andreas Eder and Markus Vikingstad. Maxim Schäfer and Elias Schneider, key players for the team, will continue their development with North American junior teams, as previously announced.
Coach Aubin is confident about the team's readiness for the upcoming season. He emphasised that the team is motivated to keep winning, and they are not taking their success for granted. The Berlin Polar Bears will start their DEL season on a high note, with a home game against the Dresden Ice Lions, aiming to defend their title and continue their winning streak.
