Despite a decrease in new business registrations, Georgia's economy manages to expand.
In the heart of July 2025, Georgia's economy witnessed a significant milestone as the turnover of VAT-paying enterprises reached an impressive 16.057 billion GEL, marking a robust 9.2% increase compared to the same month last year.
However, the growth in new enterprise registrations was not as promising. According to Geostat's Deputy Executive Director, Paata Shavishvili, the number of new businesses registered in July decreased by 3.2% compared to the same period in 2024. This decline was primarily due to fewer registrations by local individual entrepreneurs.
Despite the dip in new enterprise registrations, Georgia's economy expanded by a commendable 8% over the first seven months of 2025. The solid increase in VAT-paying company turnover continues to drive overall economic performance.
July itself saw the registration of 6,154 new businesses, although the specific details about the founder(s) or the industries these companies belong to remain undisclosed at this time. Recent business activity in Georgia, however, has been diverse, with initiatives in sectors such as innovation and technology startups supported by accelerator programmes, professional training centres, pharmaceutical services, and energy modernization projects like hydroelectric power.
Interestingly, the growth in July was mainly supported by strong business activity. In fact, Georgia's economy recorded a 6.5% growth in July, further underscoring the resilience and dynamism of the Georgian economy.
