Detroit welcomes back basketball player Malik Beasley, who paid $38K to resolve an eviction disagreement.
Malik Beasley, a versatile NBA player, finds himself hoping for a reunion with the Detroit Pistons. After an eventful 2024-25 season with the team, Beasley has decided to stay in Detroit while trying to secure an NBA contract.
Last season, Beasley made history by breaking the Pistons' franchise record for most 3-pointers in a single season, with 319 three-pointers. He also shot an impressive 41.6% from beyond the arc, a career-best for the player. Beasley's consistent performance earned him a spot in all 82 games (18 starts), marking his first full season with the Pistons.
Despite his success on the court, Beasley's off-court issues made headlines. In 2023, he was evicted from The Stott apartments due to two lawsuits for unpaid rent totaling $21,500. However, he has since paid $38,000 in delinquent rent to satisfy a judgment in an eviction case, and has moved back into his apartment at The Stott apartments.
The Stott apartments are part of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert's business ventures, adding an interesting connection to Beasley's Detroit tenure.
The federal criminal investigation involving Beasley, handled by the Eastern District of New York, has since been resolved. Beasley is no longer a target of the investigation, and he alluded to the gambling investigation in a Snapchat video last month.
Prior to joining the Pistons, Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023-24 season, where there was unusual heavy betting interest on his statistics. In the same season, Beasley finished second in voting for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
Beasley signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Pistons last year. With the Pistons still controlling Beasley's Non-Bird rights, they can offer him a first-year salary worth up to $7.2 million. Whether this opportunity will lead to a reunion between Beasley and the Pistons remains to be seen.
