Digital Landscape Unveiled: "A truly idealized future with technology as its cornerstone"
In a world where technology continues to shape our lives, artist Discovery Zone has released a thought-provoking electronic concept album titled "Quantum Web". The creation of this groundbreaking work was influenced by an online class called Radical Imperfection in Time-Tracking.
The assignments from this class required tracking various aspects of personal behaviour, a theme that can be seen reflected in the album's narrative. "Quantum Web" features mesmerising hyperpop beats, lo-fi vocals, and synths that create an immersive sonic experience.
One of the commissioned pieces that influenced several songs in "Quantum Web" is 'Cybernetica', which was created for Pop-Kultur. For this piece, a private investigator was hired to collect personal data and create data visualizations, a practice that the artist criticizes as a form of exploitation in online practices by corporations.
Throughout the album, Discovery Zone expresses concern about our digital future, stating that we are the ones responsible for its state. The artist believes that technology can be used to either elevate or destroy, and our digital future is a reflection of our real-world future.
The artist does not believe it's hopeless to create an alternative version of cyberspace that doesn't exploit its users. "Quantum Web" addresses challenging topics such as data tracking and cybernetics, urging listeners to question the norms of our digital world and our place within it.
Discovery Zone's work often addresses the exploitation of user data in online practices, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in the digital realm. The artist uses a special screen during performances to project 3D visuals and interact with different elements onstage, creating a unique and engaging live experience.
"Quantum Web" was released in March, and Discovery Zone's rebranded name, originally an American chain of child entertainment facilities that went bankrupt in the mid-1990s, encapsulates a desire for curiosity and exploration within the confines of 'RealityTM'. The artist's electronic concept album invites listeners to join in this exploration, challenging us to imagine and create a better digital future.
