Digital Library Set for Emergence in Mandaue

The City of Mandaue is set to transform its old City Planning and Development Office into a modern e-library, reflecting its commitment to education and digital resources. This new digital learning hub is anticipated to provide free internet, computers, and a safe study space for students.

The project, which is receiving support from private stakeholders such as San Miguel Corporation, is currently under renovation. However, the exact completion date and the official opening of the e-library remain uncertain at this time.

The e-library will feature both indoor and outdoor computer units. During the day, 21 indoor computer units will be available for use, while overnight from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., 10 outdoor computer units will be accessible.

Security is a top priority in ensuring students' safety, especially during late-night use. Building guards will be assigned to the facility to ensure students can focus on learning without distractions. Each user will be limited to 30 minutes if demand is high.

The library will have day and night schedules, with air-conditioned study areas available around the clock. In addition, an outdoor section will be open from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. the next day.

Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano recently visited the site on Monday, August 25, 2025, to oversee the progress of the renovations. The e-library is not yet in its final form due to repairs on the lower level and waterproofing of the upper level.

The vision for the e-library is to become fully operational 24 hours a day. However, this will only be possible after renovations are completed and the facility is fully enhanced. The e-library will be intended for educational use only.

San Miguel Corporation has sponsored fifteen computer units for the facility, demonstrating their support for the project's mission to provide accessible digital learning resources to students in Mandaue City.

As the renovation progresses, the community eagerly awaits the official opening of the new e-library, which promises to be a valuable addition to the city's educational resources.
