Digital parking display trials showcase top performers

In a recent test, three electronic parking discs were put to the test: the Needit Park Micro, the Parkwächter V1, and the Jensen Electronic Parking Disc. All participants passed the test and received their necessary type approval from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt).

Needit Park Micro

The Needit Park Micro, a compact and sleek device, scored 75 points. Its main advantages include its small size and large display. However, it has some drawbacks, such as only having one screen and the tick rate not being adjustable.

Parkwächter V1

The Parkwächter V1, a larger device, also scored 75 points. It boasts a privacy function and a large display, making it a popular choice among users. Unfortunately, its installation process is troublesome, and the carrier frame reluctantly connects with the parking disc. Despite these issues, it was rated Good.

Jensen Electronic Parking Disc

The Jensen Electronic Parking Disc, a large, designer device, scored 74 points. It is highly readable at night due to its large screen, but it lacks a privacy function. Its disadvantages include complicated manual use and a lack of a privacy function. Despite being the most expensive and lowest-scoring parking disc in the test, it still received a Satisfactory rating.

Accessibility and Distinguishability

The side buttons of the Parkwächter V1 are easily accessible but difficult to distinguish. The buttons of the Jensen Electronic Parking Disc are only accessible when the holder frame is separated from the actual parking disc.

Tested Features

All tested electronic parking discs share common features such as a 24-hour format screen with at least 20 mm high digits, a white 'P', and the word 'Arrival Time'. Some of the devices, such as the Needit Park Micro and the Parkwächter V1, offer optional privacy features. The tested electronic parking discs with privacy functions are manufactured by Needit and Cartrend. Needit offers an optional privacy feature that hides the parking time after several hours, and Cartrend provides electronic parking discs with automatic arrival time setting and compliance with data protection standards.

Rounding Rules

In some countries, rounding rules may differ, allowing rounding only up to the next quarter hour or not at all. Therefore, it's recommended to use an electronic parking disc with adjustable timing or a manual one when in doubt.

It's important to note that electronic alternatives to traditional paper or plastic parking discs are completely legal.

In conclusion, while each device has its strengths and weaknesses, all three tested electronic parking discs are legal and functional options for drivers. When choosing a device, factors such as ease of use, display size, and privacy features should be considered.
