Diplomat gracing Europe's opera platforms with cultural influence
Ninh Đức Hoàng Long, a talented Vietnamese opera singer, has made a name for himself in Europe's opera circuit. His latest performance, in the official programme during a meeting between Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and Prime Minister Orbán in Budapest in 2024, was a testament to his growing success.
Born and raised in Việt Nam, Hoàng Long's passion for opera began early. He graduated with a master's degree in opera performance from the prestigious Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. This prestigious institution has been a springboard for many great artists, including Hoàng Long.
Hoàng Long's performances have been met with critical acclaim. Stefan Frey from BR-Klassik.de praised his light and playful portrayal of tragic characters, while Sabine Busch-Frank commented that he captivated audiences with his rendition of the aria Dein ist mein ganzes Herz.
One of Hoàng Long's most notable roles was as Prince Sou-Chong in the classic opera 'Das Land des Lächelns' (The Land of Smiles) at the historic Deutsches Theatre München. His performance was internationally renowned and compared to that of Richard Tauber, Jonas Kaufmann, and Fritz Wunderlich.
Hoàng Long's journey to Europe was not without its challenges. He faced the barrier of language, but he persevered and eventually studied at the National University of Arts Education and the National Academy of Music before earning a scholarship to study abroad.
Despite his success, Hoàng Long remains grounded and committed to using his voice to connect cultures and showcase a modern, integrated Việt Nam that is still rich in its unique identity. He is currently working to invite the entire Hungarian Operetta Theatre to perform in Việt Nam to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Hoàng Long's accomplishments extend beyond the opera stage. He has accompanied the President of Hungary in Tokyo and the Prime Minister of Hungary in London. In 2018, he was even granted Hungarian citizenship by the President of Hungary.
As Hoàng Long continues to make waves in the opera world, it is clear that his future is bright. With his talent, determination, and commitment to bridging cultures, he is sure to inspire others and bring the beauty of opera to new audiences.
