Disarray at BLSK's Board of Directors - Directors Address Unrest in the Company

The Braunschweigische Landessparkasse (BLSK) has announced a restructuring plan, aimed at adapting to changing banking requirements and customer needs. The BLSK attributes the restructuring to the increasing preference for online offers and digital payment.

As part of the restructuring, around 80 jobs, mainly in internal areas, will be cut. The BLSK looks optimistically towards the future, stating that the new structure is creating the foundation for sustainable growth and a future-proof state savings bank.

Lars Dannheim, current chairman of the BLSK, will be leaving the bank to take over as chairman of the board of the Sparkasse Scheeßel. Tanja Dresselmann will take over as divisional manager for the product and sales management, as well as the brokerage and real estate business, from December 1, 2025.

The main location on the Oker island (Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz) will expand its personal consulting offer to serve corporate customers in addition to private customers and private banking. Self-service branches will be operated in Walkenried, Eschershausen, Braunlage, Lehre, and Schöppenstedt in the future.

The BLSK has also announced the deployment of a Sparkassenbus to provide cash and banking services in the regions of Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel, Helmstedt, Bad Harzburg, Seesen, and Holzminden. The self-service branches in the castle and the Langerfeldthaus in Braunschweig will remain and be modernized.

The BLSK's restructuring does not include any dismissals due to operational reasons. The bank is offering voluntary measures, such as working time reduction or near-retirement measures, and retraining and further training for the takeover of a new function.

Mayor of the city of Salzgitter, Frank Klingebiel, is represented in the supervisory board of the BLSK, but his opinions on the development were not specified in the article. However, he has expressed concern that the BLSK's withdrawal from rural areas could create an apocalyptic atmosphere and is a disastrous signal to the citizens.

No specific information about the composition of the BLSK's board from 2026 onwards is available at this time. A decision on the reoccupation of the second board position will be made in due course.

The adjustments are planned for 2026 to 2028, but the savings bank is not providing specific dates at this time. The BLSK is closing its business location in Dankwardstraße, Braunschweig, by the end of 2026.

The BLSK attributes the restructuring to the changing customer needs, with more customers preferring online offers and digital payment. The bank looks forward to a successful and sustainable future.
