Disclosed Details of Ghislaine Maxwell Regarding Former President Bill Clinton's Connections
Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted in 2021 for her role in Jeffrey Epstein's sex-trafficking ring, recently sat down for an interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche of the Department of Justice. During the conversation, Maxwell provided insights into her relationship with former President Bill Clinton.
Maxwell claimed to have begun spending time with Clinton after his presidency, as he was forging his post-presidential path through the establishment of the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative. She stated that she was introduced to Clinton by a close friend and eventually became friendly enough with him to be invited to visit his home in the suburbs of New York City.
Maxwell told Blanche that she had no independent relationship with Clinton outside of the trips he took on Epstein's plane in the early 2000s. One of Epstein's lawyers, in 2007, wrote to prosecutors to tout Epstein's pedigree as "part of the original group that conceived of the Clinton Global Initiative."
Maxwell helped connect an organiser of the World Economic Forum with Clinton's team and claimed to have been "very central" to supporting the ramp-up of Clinton Global Initiative. She also said she suggested to Epstein that he make his plane available to Clinton for the trips and helped bring key personnel to the effort to form Clinton Global Initiative.
Maxwell stated that all trips Clinton took on Epstein's plane had a "humanitarian side." However, she also told Blanche that former President Bill Clinton never visited Jeffrey Epstein's island. Maxwell was listed as a passenger on flights with Clinton and Epstein in 2002 and 2003, according to flight logs from Epstein's private jets. The last known trip Clinton took on Epstein's plane was in November 2003.
Maxwell provided no incriminating information during her meetings with Blanche about high-profile individuals who interacted with Jeffrey Epstein. It's worth noting that Clinton has never been accused of wrongdoing in connection to his time spent with Epstein.
Epstein and Maxwell sought to highlight their claimed contributions to the Clinton initiatives when seeking leniency in the federal justice system. Maxwell's attorneys, prior to her sentencing, contended that she "has endeavoured to contribute to society," including her work "helping launch the Clinton Global Initiative."
The transcript of this interview was released on Friday. Maxwell attended the wedding of Chelsea Clinton in 2010 with her then-boyfriend, Gateway computers co-founder Ted Waitt. Maxwell claimed all trips Clinton took on Epstein's plane had a "humanitarian side."
Clinton has yet to comment on Maxwell's statements. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of sex-trafficking and other offenses related to Jeffrey Epstein. She is currently serving her sentence in a federal prison in Texas.
