Discussions about the future of Berlin's historic center taking place during Mitte-Fest 2025
The Mitte Berlin Foundation, established by entrepreneur and author Marie-Luise Schwarz-Schilling in 2022, is set to organise the much-anticipated Mitte Festival 2025. After Schwarz-Schilling's passing in 2024, the foundation continues her legacy, aiming to revitalise historic sites like the Parochial Church, the Bauakademie, the Grey Monastery, and the Molkenmarkt, connecting them to structures that existed until the early 20th century.
The festival will take place at the Parochial Church on September 12 and 13, 2025. Admission is free, and no registration is required, making it an accessible event for all. The Parochial Church in Klosterstraße, a central historic monument of Berlin, provides the perfect setting for the exploration of past and future during the Mitte Festival 2025.
The festival will feature a variety of exhibitions, guided tours, and discussions, offering different perspectives on Berlin's history. Six exhibitions will showcase historical photographs, digital reconstructions, and hand drawings, while eight thematic city tours will guide visitors through the Kloster quarter, the Nikolaiviertel, or the Historic Harbor.
Lectures by preservationist Martina Abri and philosopher Wilhelm Schmid will be part of the festival, adding intellectual depth to the event. Students from the University of Notre Dame will also present their designs for the Kloster quarter and the Molkenmarkt, showcasing innovative ideas for the future of these historic areas.
Music and culinary offerings will round off the festival, encouraging exchange between citizens, experts, and cultural creators. The Mitte Festival 2025 aims to bring the discussion about the historic Mitte into a broader public, creating a forum where experts, politics, and city society can think about the role of Berlin's Mitte in a growing and changing capital.
