Disheartening Situation: Racism Unveiled in European Parliament

In the world of sports, the basketball gala that saw Germany secure its third clear win at the European Championship (EM) has taken a regrettable turn. The focus has shifted from the game's triumph to an incident of racist heckling that marred the event.

Dennis Schröder, a German basketball star, was the victim of monkey noises from the audience during the game against Lithuania at Tampere Arena. The disturbing incident was initially unnoticed during the game, but Schröder himself drew attention to the scenes later on.

Coach Alan Ibrahimagic expressed full solidarity with Schröder, stating that such things have no place in sports or competition. Schröder's wife, Ellen, also condemned the harassment, wishing the perpetrators, "that their parents had raised them better."

Two individuals were ejected from the arena as a result of the heckling. One of them has been identified and banned from the rest of the European Championship. The other individual remains unidentified, and no additional measures beyond the ones reported have been disclosed.

FIBA has provided the relevant footage and information to the authorities, and has promised to contact the Lithuanian team delegation to inform them about the situation and support efforts to prevent similar incidents in future games.

The Lithuanian Association also regretted the incidents and stated that they go against the values of basketball and society. Lithuania's basketball players later apologized to Schröder for the racist heckling.

Schröder, who has been playing in North America for many years, often speaks about his youth and childhood and the racism he faced. He expressed his feelings on social media, likening the incident to the experiences of Brazilian football star Vinicius Jr.

The German Basketball Association (DBB) stood up for Schröder, stating that such incidents have no place in the world of basketball. Schröder himself wrote on Instagram that he wished the individuals who made the monkey noises had the courage to do so outside the arena, implying that they would face consequences if they did.

Ibrahimagic said, "We can only fight against it." The incident serves as a stark reminder that while sports are meant to bring people together, there are still those who resort to hateful actions. The fight against racism continues both on and off the court.
