Disheveled Female in an Inebriated State Swipes Casket Containing Remains from Morgue in Las Vegas
In a bizarre turn of events, a woman named Patricia Sierra, 47, was arrested for stealing a coffin containing a human body from the Affordable Cremation & Burial funeral home on August 27.
The body had arrived at the funeral home on August 20 and was scheduled for a viewing day before the unfortunate incident. On the night of the theft, Sierra broke into the funeral home by breaking through a window and unlocking the front door.
According to reports, at around 3:30 am, a body was found lying in front of Affordable Cremation & Burial. The police were alerted to the scene, and an investigation was promptly initiated.
Sierra admitted that the woman on the surveillance footage was her but said that she had no memories of the incident due to being drunk at the time. She told the police that she had consumed six beers before the accident and added that alcohol often makes her black out.
After the incident, Sierra left the coffin at the crime scene and fled. It was not until two days later that a citizen contacted the police to report recognizing Sierra while she was shopping at a local convenience store.
The police identified the culprit not long after the crime and Sierra was arrested. She faces charges of burglary, grand larceny, and disturbing human remains.
In a statement, Sierra apologized for the incident, emphasizing that it had not been prompted by malice. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 18, and as of the time of this writing, Sierra remains in custody with her bail set at $11,000.
