Disney's creative team, Imagineers, developed a captivating animatronic parrot for the Beak and Barrel lounge, leaving audiences captivated and calling it the star attraction.

The Magic Kingdom at Disney World has a new addition to its lineup, with the grand opening of The Beak and Barrel on August 29, 2025. This themed restaurant and lounge, located in Adventureland next to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, offers guests a 45-minute interactive show experience.

At the heart of The Beak and Barrel is Rummy the Parrot, an audio-animatronic created by Walt Disney Imagineering. Rummy, perched above the bar, leads the action, often guiding the cast members playing pirate crew as they serve guests. With impressive range of motion and detailed articulation, powered by compact motors and actuators, Rummy bursts into the song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" from the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Rummy carries on Disney's long-standing tradition with bird animatronics, a legacy that stretches back to the 1964-65 New York World's Fair and the Enchanted Tiki Room. However, Rummy represents a significant leap forward in lifelike movement and realism. The development of Rummy involved figuring out what functions and movements were needed to make it look like a bird, and packaging that into a shell. Much of the improvement with Rummy is thanks to smaller electric motors that can now all be packaged inside the bird.

The experience at The Beak and Barrel unfolds in one of three themed rooms. The Map Room, filled with intricate design details, features ships in bottles that spring to life in a miniature battle. Guests are encouraged to wander and explore these rooms during their visit, which also includes opportunities to purchase food and drink. Each visit runs about 45 minutes.

Disney's ongoing push to redefine what an attraction can be is evident in The Beak and Barrel. This immersive project follows in the footsteps of the Haunted Mansion Parlor and other innovative projects like the Galactic Starcruiser and Oga's Cantina.

In a nod to the Pirates of the Caribbean films, The Beak and Barrel represents a new experience at Disney World. And the Pirates-themed lounge similar to The Beak and Barrel is already confirmed for the forthcoming Disney Destiny ship. The development of The Beak and Barrel involves ensuring show elements work no matter where you stand in the space, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for all guests.
