Disruption on Lisbon Metro services Tuesday and Thursday, offering only minimal operations

The Federation of Transport and Communication Trade Unions (Fectrans) has been in negotiations with Lisbon's Metro management over two proposal letters aimed at improving working conditions. However, the workers announced last week that they will carry out partial strikes on September 9 and 11 due to lack of responses to their demands.

The strikes will affect various sectors of operation. Workers from the operation sector will be on strike from 05:00 to 10:00, workshop sector workers from 07:00 to 12:00, fixed and administrative sector workers from 07:30 to 12:30, and night service workers from 02:00 to 07:00.

Normally, the metro functions between 06:30 and 01:00. However, due to the strikes, the service will only open from 10:30 on September 9 and 11. The strikes will affect the transport service between 05:00 and 10:00, but the service will be completely unaffected from 10:00 onwards on these days.

Lisbon's Metro operates daily with four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia), and Red (Aeroporto-São Sebastião). The metro provides a public service to the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The company hopes to reach a "structural and lasting understanding" with the workers, and the proposals aim to balance the arguments presented by the workers with the management objectives of the company and the promotion of productivity. The proposals also include an increase in the meal, vacation, and Christmas subsidy, and changes in the maximum weekly working hours.

The Lisbon Metro has started negotiations with the representative organizations of the workers, presenting two agreement proposals for the year 2025. A new workers' meeting is scheduled for 15:00 on this Monday. The company is promoting dialogue with unions to suspend the planned strikes on September 9 and 11.

The Arbitration Tribunal did not decree the proposed minimum services, and the Lisbon Metro announced that the arbitration tribunal did not order minimum services for the planned strikes on September 9 and 11. The strikes, if they occur, will affect the transport service between 05:00 and 10:00 on September 9 and 11, with the service opening from 10:30 only.
