Third Quarter Shows Robust Performance for ASI® Distributors
Third Quarter Shows Robust Performance for ASI® Distributors

Distributors of ASI® registered impressive sales figures during the third quarter.

The Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI), the largest member organization in the promotional products industry, recently conducted a survey among its 17,000 distributor member firms. The results suggest a stable industry with strong sales growth.

According to the survey, nearly 60% of ASI's distributor member firms indicated sales were higher in Q3 2004 compared to Q3 2003. This positive trend is further supported by ASI president, Timothy M. Andrews, who stated that the combined results from the first, second, and third quarters of 2004 indicate a robust industry with steady sales growth.

Robert J. Postill of R.J. Postill Merchandising (asi/297375) attributes this growth to increased price pressure from direct importers and an increasing number of suppliers, which has led his company to change its business strategy and client base.

The survey results also indicate a majority of ASI's distributor member firms are optimistic about the sales outlook for the remainder of 2004. Distributors are optimistic about a robust fourth quarter, citing the subsiding of election attention and less disruptions related to hurricane storm damage.

Pam Kubat of Corporate Recognition, Inc. (asi/169029) shares this optimism, noting that the promotional products industry is healthier and more active. She sees companies doing wearables again as an indication of their confidence in the general economy.

ASI offers a variety of resources to help distributor firms locate suppliers and market services to buyers of promotional products. These resources include catalogs, informational directories, newsletters, magazines, websites, and databases, as well as interactive e-commerce, marketing, and selling tools. The organization also provides suppliers with resources to market products to more than 17,000 distributor firms.

Founded in 1950, ASI has grown to employ 400 people and boasts a membership of 20,000 sales companies and suppliers of promotional products. It supports members including retailers, agencies, and manufacturers of promotional items with tools, knowledge, and events.

The largest media provider in the promotional products industry is PSI Network, known as Europe's largest promotional products database and network for the industry. It offers similar services to ASI, supporting its members with tools, knowledge, and events.

It is clear from the survey results that the promotional products industry is experiencing a period of growth and stability. For more information about ASI, call 800-546-1487, or visit www.our website.
