Dolphins of Nha Trang secure a place in the playoffs' final round
The Nha Trang Dolphins clinched the last playoff spot this season with a dominant 96-70 victory over the Danang Dragons at Military Zone 5 Gymnasium, Đà Nẵng City on Friday.
Jaylyn Richardson, the Player of the Game, led the charge for the Dolphins with an impressive performance of 25 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. His decisive 23-4 run in the last period sealed the deal for the Dolphins, effectively ending the contest.
The game started with the Danang Dragons taking an early lead, ending the first quarter at 22-17. However, the Dolphins fought back, with Huỳnh Vĩnh Quang and Richardson narrowing the deficit in the second quarter. By mid-second quarter, the Dragons stretched the gap to 10 points, but the Dolphins surged ahead by more than 20 points in the latter stages of the game.
Late contributions from substitutes Nguyễn Thành Đạt and Nguyễn Phúc Vinh gave the Dolphins a 61-56 advantage heading into the final quarter. Phúc Vinh and Thành Đạt combined for 16 points and five steals off the bench for the Dolphins.
Munkhtur Khurel Togoo's accurate three-point shooting kept the Dolphins within reach at 39-38 before half-time. The third quarter saw both teams exchange leads, but the Dolphins pulled away in the final period.
For the Danang Dragons, Timothy Simmons led the team with 23 points, while Lâm Minh Duy contributed nine. Mai Phước Thịnh was a key player for the Dragons, while Mykal Jenkins was crucial for the Nha Trang Dolphins.
The victory confirmed the Dolphins as the final team to secure a playoff spot this season. The Dolphins finished the regular season with a record of 11 wins and 5 losses, while the Danang Dragons ended with 8 wins and 9 losses.
The coaches of the Nha Trang Dolphins include Daleo Christopher, Nguyen Tran Minh Tri, and Purves John Todd. The Dolphins will now prepare for the playoffs, aiming to make a strong run in the post-season.
