Domestic Vacation Turns Legal Disaster: Intoxicated Father, Resisting Mother Leads to Arrest
On Saturday evening, a dramatic incident unfolded in Lünen, Germany, as the local police patrol unit conducted traffic control on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße. The officers stopped a Volkswagen Touran due to unsafe driving, leading to the arrest of its driver, a 44-year-old man from Dortmund, and his partner.
The Touran, carrying the man, his partner, their juvenile daughter, and another couple, was stopped on Bebelstraße, at the intersection with Derner Straße, around 19:30. The driver was reported to have almost collided with the curb, made abrupt steering movements, and drove either too fast or too slow.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on the driver. A voluntary breath test was taken, which failed. Consequently, a blood test was ordered for the driver at the police station in Lünen, and he was taken to the central police detention facility.
The driver became increasingly aggressive and resisted deployment forces in the patrol car. His partner, who did not comply with the dispersal order, was arrested to enforce it. She tried to open the door of the patrol car to free her husband and shouted loudly, even filming the officers.
The three other passengers in the Touran were allowed to continue their journey after the police measures were completed. It was later discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver's license.
The incident resulted in two people ending up in police custody. The 44-year-old driver's partner was released after the dispersal order was enforced. The officers had a lot of reports to write following the incident.
