In a series of recent statements, former President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to address crime issues in two major American cities - Chicago and New Orleans.

Trump believes he could fix the crime problem in both cities, and has suggested deploying federal troops to Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. However, he has not yet specified a timeline for such a deployment in Chicago.

Meanwhile, in Louisiana, a Republican exception in the southern Democratic state, the government has announced its intention to open a migrant detention center within the State Peach Prison. The center, set to house gang members, rapists, drug traffickers, and human traffickers, according to Attorney General Jeff Landry, echoes Trump's tough rhetoric on immigration.

The center's opening was announced alongside Interior Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi during a press conference. Jeff Landry stated that the center will house "the worst of the worst illegal alien criminals."

However, the announcement of the detention center has faced criticism from Human Rights Watch, who condemned the detention of migrants in centers where they are treated "in a degrading and dehumanizing manner." According to the NGO, nearly three-quarters of detainees have no criminal record.

Local political leaders in Chicago, including the Democratic mayor and governor, have rejected the idea of deploying federal troops. In response, Louisiana Democratic Representative Troy A. Carter stated that militarizing New Orleans is not a solution and that the city needs resources, not a political stunt.

Trump previously threatened to deploy federal troops to Chicago and has now extended his consideration to New Orleans. He claims that crime has been eradicated in Washington since the deployment of federal troops there in mid-August, and believes he could fix the crime problem in New Orleans within two weeks.

Trump also claims that the people of Chicago support him and believe they have incompetent local leaders, who are Democrats. However, these claims have not been independently verified.

The new migrant detention center will be located within the Angola prison in Louisiana. The detention center's operation and its impact on crime rates in both Chicago and New Orleans remain to be seen.
