Dortmund Secures First League Victory with Guirassy's Two Goals Over Union Berlin (3-0 Score)
Borussia Dortmund finally claimed their first win of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Union Berlin at Signal Iduna Park.
The hosts took the lead in the 43rd minute, with Serhou Guirassy scoring a goal that would set the tone for the rest of the match. Guirassy has been in exceptional form, scoring in the last seven consecutive Bundesliga games for Dortmund. His goal on Sunday was a testament to his current form, a fierce effort that found the bottom-right corner.
Ramy Bensebaini thought he had doubled Dortmund's lead shortly after the hour mark, but his goal was disallowed due to a foul on Union Berlin's goalkeeper, Frederik Ronnow. However, Guirassy would not be denied his second goal of the game, scoring two minutes before the hour mark to put Dortmund in a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Felix Nmecha extended Dortmund's lead in the 81st minute, scoring a goal that would seal the victory for the home side. The goal was a result of a one-two between Guirassy and Maximilian Beier, with Nmecha finding the back of the net with a well-placed shot.
Union Berlin proved to be no match for the impressive Dortmund side, who dominated the game with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.21 from their 11 shots, while Union Berlin had an xG total of 1.2 from their 12 attempts.
Niko Kovac, the manager of Borussia Dortmund, watched his team put on an impressive display that will no doubt bring positives for the future. Kovac recently extended his stay at Dortmund for another two years, and this victory will no doubt boost his confidence in his team's ability to challenge for the title this season.
With this win, Dortmund move up to seventh in the Bundesliga table, and will be looking to build on this impressive performance in their next match.
