Dr. Phil is confronted by Bill Maher during a heated exchange over the latter's refusal to join ICE raids
In a recent turn of events, renowned television personality Dr. Phil, known as Phil McGraw, has found himself at the centre of controversy after his decision to collaborate with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on immigration raids.
According to reports, Dr. Phil was supported by ICE agents during these operations in recent months, as they worked together on enforcement efforts related to immigration issues. However, a spokesperson for Dr. Phil clarified that he was not embedded in the Los Angeles ICE operations, contrary to earlier reports in The New York Post.
The controversy escalated when Bill Maher, another popular TV host, confronted Dr. Phil over his involvement in the raids. Maher, known for his outspoken nature, questioned Dr. Phil's decision, stating that it seemed inconsistent with his work on family healing and the separation of families.
In response, Dr. Phil defended ICE agents, arguing that they did not make the laws they have to enforce. He further stated that if someone does not like the law, they should change it. Dr. Phil also highlighted the protective measures taken by ICE agents, such as wearing masks to protect themselves and their families from violence and doxxing.
The exchange between Maher and Dr. Phil has since been circulated on social media, with some accounts praising Maher for his questioning, while others criticised him for what they perceived as humiliating Dr. Phil. The account Blue Georgia, for instance, commented that the video showed Maher "humiliating" his guest.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Bill Maher has found himself on opposite sides of the political spectrum. Earlier this year, he spoke positively about Donald Trump following a meeting with him at the White House.
Dr. Phil, on the other hand, has made it clear that he does not like the current law and wants it changed. He argued that if someone commits a crime or is driving under the influence with a child in the car, families are separated immediately.
