Dramatic Encounter at the Cathedral's Theater: Boris Pistorius and Herlinde Koelbl
In October 20XX, renowned German photographer Herlinde Koelbl will present a photo book about the current Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius. The event, titled "Boris Pistorius. Aufbruch", will take place at Theater am Domhof and is organised by the theatre and the literature office Westniedersachsen.
Koelbl, known for her profound human portraits and ethnological approach with the camera, has been capturing people and their cultural contexts throughout her career. Her works have been showcased in numerous international exhibitions and are represented in many important collections.
The photo book, which will be released on October 5th, is a culmination of interviews that took place between January and December 2024. This is not the first time Koelbl has delved into political photography. Her largest project to date, a long-term study from 1991 to 1998, resulted in the photo book "Spuren der Macht", featuring the transformation of Angela Merkel, Gerhard Schröder, and Joschka Fischer, among others.
In 2009, Koelbl's entire body of work was honoured in her largest solo exhibition to date at the Berlin Martin-Gropius-Bau. The exhibition was accompanied by the publication of the photo book "Mein Blick".
Boris Pistorius, the subject of Koelbl's latest work, is a prominent figure in German politics. He currently holds the position of Minister of Defense. The book offers insights into Pistorius's personality, roots, career, goals, and challenges as a politician.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the theater box office and online. The entrance fee is 22 euros / 19 euros / 15 euros, with additional booking fees. A documentary film on the subject was also produced as part of "Spuren der Macht".
Koelbl regularly publishes documentary films and video installations on similar themes. Her latest book, "Faszination Wissenschaft. 60 Begegnungen mit wegweisenden Forschern unserer Zeit", was published by Knesebeck. With over a dozen photo books under her belt, Koelbl continues to make significant contributions to the field of photography.
