Dresden Fire and Rescue Service Operations Report: A summary of the fire and rescue service activities in the state capital Dresden from August 22nd to August 25th, 2025

In the heart of August, the Dresden Fire Department found themselves responding to a series of incidents that tested their skills and resources.

On August 24th, the department was called out to six incidents due to a severe storm that swept through the city. The storm, accompanied by hail and strong winds, caused several trees and branches to fall, necessitating the fire department's assistance in removing the hazards.

The day also saw a kitchen fire in a high-rise building on Pfeifferhannsstraße, Johannstadt. Despite the challenge, the fire was quickly extinguished, and no one was injured.

The following day, on August 25th, the department was faced with a significant incident: a basement fire in a multi-family house on Ermischstraße, Wilsdruffer Vorstadt. The fire broke out at 6:15 AM, and a 45-year-old man sustained injuries while attempting to extinguish the fire before the fire department arrived. He was treated on site and later taken to a hospital.

Ventilation measures were immediately implemented, and apartments were checked for smoke gas entry during the Ermischstraße basement fire operation. Regrettably, an elevated carbon monoxide level was found in one apartment, prompting the immediate evacuation of three residents who are currently being examined for possible smoke gas poisoning.

Interestingly, on the same day, the department was requested 11 times by the rescue helicopter Christoph 38, although no further details about these incidents were provided.

However, it's worth noting that no injuries were reported in any of the incidents mentioned.

Over the weekend, the emergency services in Dresden were alerted a total of 639 times, with 50 incidents involving technical assistance by the fire department. In 173 cases, the services of a doctor were required.

Remarkably, on August 2nd, a heavily smoking mobile phone battery in an apartment building led to a deployment of fire and rescue services. The fire department recommends using charging devices for lithium-ion batteries (used in mobile phones, laptops, or e-scooters) under supervision and storing damaged batteries safely outdoors.

The cause of the Ermischstraße basement fire is currently under investigation by the police. For inquiries regarding the incidents, the press office of the Fire Department Dresden can be contacted.

On August 24th, a man suffered a seizure while working in his garden and had to be secured with special equipment by the fire department. No fire was found on-site during the additional deployment on Elsasser Straße on August 24th, 2025.

Finally, the department reminds the public to stay vigilant and cautious during these times, especially when dealing with potential fire hazards.
